Their new lifestyle comes at a price, however: Bradley is back working in the criminal underworld, running crystal and coke for a local dealer (Marc Blucas). Both movies move forward at a very methodical place — like a roller-coaster inching its way toward a steep drop — before unleashing hyper-violent explosions.
S. Craig Zahler is one of the most talented writer/directors working right now. The cops win, they send Bradley to prison, and now a vicious drug lord wants the $3.2 million Bradley’s failure cost him. A man throws a grenade near the main protagonist. “Brawl in Cell Block 99” is about how systematic violence can become second nature to most. It's right up there with Dirty Harry. They all seem to be taking advantage of the fact that they are in a great film and each chews the scenery properly, especially Vaughn and Don Johnson. Bradley is slow and plodding, but the strength and precision he puts into annihilating his victims are thrilling to watch. This is just as good with an inevitable feeling of a journey for the main character that cannot end well. Loved the Soundtrack !

Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2018, When I read reviews on just about about anything listed on Amazon, I usually read the one- and two-star ones first, and I see a lot of real negative ones on this film. He’s back and ready to face the hype with his latest film, an action/crime/thriller titled Brawl in Cell Block 99, and it’s just as twisted and violent as Zahler’s fans could hope for. Why isn't a talent of this magnitude not doing more Action & Dramatic Roles ? A man is shot in the face in graphic detail. Might work/shock once, but come on! One night, he is out leading a drug run with a sketchy crew, when the police show up. They’ve leveled-up from their modest home into a massive house, and they’re expecting their first child. At 6”4, Bradley is a behemoth of a man, and he takes out his anger with a terrifying display of strength. This movie: brutal, intense, mesmerizing. When Bradley (Vince Vaughn) is sent to prison, he is forced to commit acts of violence that turn the place into a savage battleground. If you enjoy d-movies where the lighting is wrong, the camera placement is wrong, laughably bad scenes that progress illogically from one to the next, and practical effect gore that is done so poorly one would think the movie was made in 1950, then you'll enjoy this movie. A man fights a prison officer and beats him and breaks his arm backwards (very graphic). He uses a lot of restraint in the film so that his performance is subtle & not overdone which creates such a realistic portrayal of the character - Bradley ! I feel like a bit of a voice in the wilderness here, but I thought this was very disappointing. How much were Rottentomatoes critics paid? It’s not that you enjoy being the hell out of people. If you don't like violence on screen, don't watch it under any circumstances. Don't get me wrong he has the ability to be very funny but he is a Multi-Faceted performer which this movie demonstrates ! Stay clear of Brawl in Cell Block 99 if you’re the least bit squeamish. Bare-fisted, he pummels his wife’s car into bits like he’s in a Street Fighter II bonus round. The problem is that cell block 99 isn’t in the prison where Bradley’s locked up. Sure, they’re different genres with different themes, but watching both films gave me the same sort of feelings. So Glad to see Vince Vaughn in something other than a comedy !

It's one of the few and rare grindhouse style movies that isn't over the top. He also made Bone Tomahawk, which is a movie that can boast of some crazy violence as well. Brawl in Cell Block 99 is a perfect midnight madness-style movie. The only thing larger than Bradley’s mammoth frame are his wits, and he puts them both to use by finding creative ways to hurt people, track down his target, and save Lauren. Marc Blucas, whom I know from Buffy (TV), has a small but important role and brings it home. I watched the whole thing and kept waiting for something to happen that might tie the whole experience together and somehow change my opinion, but was still waiting when the end credits rolled. The premise is so pulpy, the stakes so ludicrous, and the violence so over-the-top that the film demands to be watched in front of wild audiences.
